TRAINING & INNOVATION

We aim to support our entire Team’s development in a variety of ways, ensuring their continual progression and maintenance of consistent quality service which translates into a positive experience for customers and a delicious cup of coffee.

Our Team training starts with 1-2-1 hands-on training on the coffee bar, working with them while they master the basics. This is supported with an ongoing personal training programme, all kept track of using our in-house training booklets. Not only do our Team learn how to brew and pour a great coffee but they learn about its history, the wider industry and broader customer service.

To support our in-house training, the Team also visit Heartland Coffee Roasters as part of their initial training. During this visit, the Team at Heartland explain and share the processes that go into speciality coffee from the field to the cup. This deeper knowledge allows our Team to craft even higher quality coffee and answer customers’ questions around their brews, giving them a more rounded and engaging experience when they visit Prov.

We also host regular Team training nights around specific topics, we encourage and support our Team in attending and taking part in local and national events like the Manchester and London Coffee Festivals. these are a fantastic learning experience as well as an opportunity to represent the North Wales speciality coffee scene.

We also aim to support our Team in broadening their skills. Two of our Team are now accredited Conwy Tourism Ambassadors and we recently supported Zoey in completing her Level 2 Hospitality Management (congratulations, Zoey!)

We believe that great coffee is built on more than flavour alone. This page shares how we invest in barista skills, develop our spaces and equipment, and put sustainability at the heart of what we do. By focusing on craft, innovation, and responsible choices, we aim to keep improving while staying true to our values.

THE LATEST COFFEE EQUIPMENT

We recently invested in the latest energy-efficient grinders and espresso machines from Sanremo Coffee Machines, allowing us to deliver a wider choice of better-quality coffee, quicker at both our locations.

The latest pieces of equipment added to our set up are the X-One Grinder, Café Racer Espresso Machine and D8 Coffee Machine.

MAKING SPECIALITY COFFEE ACCESSIBLE

To make speciality coffee accessible and approachable to a wider community, we’re trying to break down the barriers to entry. Our knowledgeable Team will gladly talk through all of our coffee choices, help people find their preferred roasts or decide on their perfect home brewing method of choice.

This year we wanted to go one step further, creating our own Brew Guide (available digitally here or as a printed card from our coffeehouses) that customers can pick up or download when they visit us. This walks customers through the home brewing method of their choice step-by-step, ensuring great coffee extends beyond our coffeehouses.

The next step up from our Brew Guides is our Barista Workshops. Started in 2024, these small-group workshops are designed to give customers a taste of the training our team goes through, deepening their knowledge of their brew and sharpening their skills so their home brews more closely resemble the barista-quality coffee they’d receive over the coffee bar. Led by our seasoned baristas, these workshops are also available for commercial groups wanting to prepare for service and implement their own team training.

In Little Prov and Provstretcher, we’ve refreshed our furniture to create a more flexible, comfortable environment that better caters to our visitors. Whether you’re visiting with your family and friends, enjoying a solo coffee or working remotely, there is a space for you.

FRESH FURNITURE

Sustainability and innovation underpins our business decisions. In the last year, we have invested in solar energy and power converters to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources and increase our energy efficiency, while compostable packaging has replaced most plastics. We recycle used coffee grinds for community use and offer a reusable cup discount to encourage better habits among customers. We’ve pledged to the North Wales Rivers Trust “River Champions” scheme, highlighting our accountability and commitment to reducing our environmental footprint.
